Who We Are
Hood River Soaring is a nonprofit glider club founded in 2016 as an official chapter of the Soaring Society of America. We are passionate about sharing our love of soaring with the people who live in and visit the Hood River Valley. Our experienced pilots offer scenic glider rides to the public. We also offer a wide range of glider flying services to our members. Our youth program makes the sport of soaring more accessible and affordable to the next generation of pilots.
We promote the art and science of soaring by making aviation and aviation education accessible to all, including special outreach to youth.
We support this mission through a combination of donations, grants, membership fees, and revenue from scenic glider rides and related activities. Hood River Soaring is an Oregon non-profit 501(c)(3) educational, scientific, and charitable organization.
We believe that becoming a glider pilot is a unique opportunity for young people to develop responsibility and valuable skills that will help them soar in all aspects of life. Our organization invests a portion of the proceeds from scenic glider rides into our non-profit mission, which is dedicated to our youth program. We offer work-study credit and scholarships to young people ages 13-25 whose dream is to become pilots.
Join Hood River Soaring to meet other pilots and engage with the supportive and welcoming Hood River flying community.
Become a member to receive access to the HRS glider fleet, glider towing, instruction at member rates, discounted scenic rides, members-only online services, and more.
Membership is offered at levels of participation ranging from those who want to enjoy occasional glider rides and share them with friends and family to the aspiring pilot intent on high-performance competition. There's no better value in aviation than becoming a member of Hood River Soaring.
